‘Teenagers are not just our present, but also our past and inescapable future; we are willing exiles in Neverland’ (Andy Miller)
Teenagers in the UK are the most unruly, unhappy, and the most feared in the developed world if you believe all the research published in the last few years. Teenagers leaving school today are statistically better qualified than they have ever been before yet seem ill prepared for the adult world – a world in which emotional, behavioural, personal and social skills have become far more important, in determining their earnings in later life. So what is the truth about our teenagers and what can we do about it?
Over the years Channel 4 has built up an unrivalled track record in illuminating the issues facing teenagers as they make the transition from adolescence to adulthood, from school to work and test the boundaries of what is acceptable behaviour.
To coincide with its 25th anniversary Channel 4 Education in conjunction with Children & Young People Now and the RSA is hosting a debate Teen Rage – Anarchy in the UK? at the RSA on the evening of the 17th October. This event will attempt to make sense of what is happening to our teenagers, and examine what we can do to improve their well being.
Confirmed speakers:
The event will be chaired by Ravi Chandiramani the Editor of Children and Young People Now.
The debate will start at 7pm (with registration from 6.30pm) and we will finish at 8.30pm. Drinks and canapes will be served from 8.30pm.
I really hope you can join for what should be a fascinating and lively debate.
